"Are You Proud Of Your Country?"

There’s clapping, cheerful laughter, and brimming smiles as hats are thrown in the air and land on the grass. Why is it that at high school graduations fathers and mothers shed tears? Why is it that mothers get so exultant when their children walk for the first time, crawl for the first time or even say their first word? The answer is in one word, proud. Webster’s defines the word proud as “to be dignified.” The parents are proud of their son/daughter, and the mother is proud of her children. You will only be proud of something if you love, care, and cherish it. You will only say you’re proud of something if it imprints your heart. Me, I am far too young to be a parent, yet I recognize the pride that a parent has in his/her child as the same type of pride that I have for my country.
Betsy Ross was the first lady who made the symbol of our country; the symbol that we all have pride in. That symbol is our flag. The flag is hung high in the sky all over our country with its courage colors; red, white, and blue. On it, you can see the stars shining into your heart. The stars represent the states which, although separate, are unified under the freedom that America grant for all men and women.  Then there’s the red and white stripes brightening our day. The red stand for hardiness and valor and the white signifies purity and innocence. Lying next to the stars is the gracious blue. It signifies the president and all who risk their lives for American citizens. I am in awes of how these courageous individuals made and continue to make sacrifices so that I can pursue my dreams in a free country. I am proud of our country’s flag.
The flag is there to support us on our joyful days, and also on our saddest days.  Soldiers and veterans are all those who have risked their lives for us to have freedom; while often leaving a grieving family behind. Freedom is one thing that some other countries still don’t have and are striving for. I feel very fortunate to have an admirable country that inspires pride in fathers, mothers, children, veterans, and all those that are fortunate to live in “the land of the free and the home of the brave.”
